Belfast, Northern Ireland
Twenty minutes out the Malone Road, in an old merchant's house above the Lagan valley — log fires, a walled garden, and a kitchen the neighbours book into as often as our guests do.
About
A Belfast linen merchant built this place with enough land for a walled garden and enough rooms for his eleven children. We took it over in 2014, kept the fireplaces, and turned the old stable block into four more rooms and a wee spa. Whatever's ready in the walled garden usually ends up on the dinner plates that night.
Twelve rooms altogether, a restaurant that's full of locals most nights, and a car park at the front instead of a valet — you'll be glad of it once you see the drive.
The kind of house where the kettle's always just been boiled.
